New Year's Resolutions/Goals

Read some of my New Year's resolutions/goals on Galleycat. Thanks to Ron for publishing them. A few I'd like to add that may not be writing related are:
- take wine tasting classes
- spend more time with hubby
- lose 10 to 15 pounds
- get back into working out (the workout of choice is Bikram yoga)
- finish reading the stack of 32 books on my night stand
- revise a few of my short stories, submit them, and have them in print
- go on an island vacation. I'm thinking about the Galapagos Islands or St Martin or St Thomas or uhm OK any place warm with lots of refreshing alcohol infused drinks.

Happy New Year to everyone!

  • Happy new year to you too, Lisa!

And thanks for keeping us updated on the U Penn fiction writing class. As it turns out, I can't get there by 6:30 on Thursdays because my husband works too much--I mean too late--and no one can watch the kiddos until he gets home. I wish exercise classes and writing classes and meetings and book signings and, well, everything ADULT was scheduled for a time I could make. *sigh*

Sorry to vent on your comment board. ;)

  • Pearl - I am planning on this being a fabulous year and I found your method for discovering books intriguing.

Mary Louisa - Feel free to vent on this blog. Not a problem. When I'm attending a workshop, I'll go to work from 7 AM to 3:30 or 4 PM so I will make it into the City in time for the workshop and hopefully grab a bite beforehand. By the end of the night, I am a bit tired but a bit more fulfilled. I get energized when I attend a great workshop. Yes, I am a geek. Yes, I could probably use some form of psychotherapy.

  • I've a wine tasting group that meets every month. Funny and fine group of folks. The wine steward happens to be a friend and she's worked in the industry for years. What we do is rotate the houses and everybody brings something to eat. The hostess is responsible for the entree and making sure the wine glasses arrive clean at the next house the next month. www.bacchusbunch.com is their web page. Maybe you can pull something like that together from your friends? We're not on a state store system out here, so it's a little easier. Maybe the store in Chestnut Hill has things like this or one of the stores out on the main line? Might be able to hookup with a whole group.

Other than that, have a great new year and may those 10 to 15 pounds be history. You want to look good for your author photo, y'know. Mindy.

What a great idea! I'm starting my adventures in wine experimentation at Harry's Savoy Grill in Wilmington Delaware. The wine steward there is a wonderful woman. I've already learned a lot by just eating there. Anyway, she hosts a wine tasting class once a month, but if I could find enough people (and once our construction is complete) I may start noseying around to find folks who would be interested.

And the photos on BacchusBunch.com are great.

  • I missed that meeting. Now that I see that they posted photos, I'm glad. If Harry's is the place I'm thinking of, I've eaten there. Is it the place that makes a big deal out of having a humungous wine list? Seems one year the husband's office Christmas party was there. Very familiar.

We've done a couple of meetings at restaurants. Of course, the price goes way up doing it that way. As it is it's 35 bucks a couple a month, so it's a great deal. Everybody in the group is a superb cook, or know their way around the gourmet markets around here. The wines are wonderful. Monet does a range from cheaper to more expensive. She lets the hostess decide on the theme for the month, or will suggest something if s/he doesn't already have an idea. the group operates in the black, which is great because we've had opportunity to taste some pretty pricey wines.
